LEARN

STORY

Early in life, I can remember my older brother getting his film degree and watching him edit his local freelance videos. I would sneak on to his computer when he wasn't around and edit my own version of his projects. Though likely terrible, this is what kick-started my path to editing myself. I was fascinated by the creative process and began to study and dissect every movie I watched.

The idea of FIB Productions began in the dark corner of my TV Production class in high school sometime in the mid-2000s. While learning the basics of editing, I would quickly complete (most of) my menial classwork so that I could explore Final Cut Pro. This interest quickly became an obsession. My classmates and I starting creating parody music videos on the side, while I operated the sports section of the weekly video show. As cringe-y as some of that work was, I soon found my inbox filling up with actual inquiries for real (free) work. I attacked the opportunity and this gave birth to FIB Productions.

One music video led to a second and a third, and before I knew it, I had what we call in the business, "clients". The FIB name soon became well-known among the local music scene in north central Florida. This recognition brought in new clients, seeking event coverage for local music concerts and festivals, local commercials, and promotional packages.

In 2013, I was approached by one of my favorite artists in Florida inquiring about a lyric video and subsequently, discovered the typography world. This film-less niche allowed me to stretch my client base to other regions beyond my small town, as I was able to create projects without having to travel. While I transitioned from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere Pro, this foreign (to me, anyway) category caught on like a wild fire and I was quickly flooded with requests for lyric videos. In this time, I realized my passion isn't necessarily in the field of filming and recording, but in fact, it was the creative process behind the scenes; the manipulating, cutting, "apple-S-ing", critical thinking of it all.

Five years of steady typography work was abruptly halted by some major life events, forcing me to go on a hiatus. However, the 2020s are a new beginning for FIB Productions. While remembering where I started, I am looking to the future, with a focus on freelance editing work. While I lack formal training, I believe my 15+ years of self-taught, trial-and-error work has given me the understanding and knowledge of the do's and do-not's of this field. While I continue to grow and learn, my wish is to find a new niche, outside of the realm of music. Sports? Video Games? Whatever it may be, evolving is the ultimate goal.

How can I fill in the blanks?
